Skiing
I’m not really fond of sports. The general sports that are to do around here, I find a bit boring. I don’t actively dispise doing sports. And I am in shape, sort of. Anyway, one the sports I do absolutely LOVE, is skiing (others are skateboarding and go-karting). To me, there’s little else that’s as fun or as thrilling as skiing down a mountain. I’ve always been obsessed with racing, and it shows in my love for skiing. Speeding down as fast as I can (while still being in control!) is one of greatest things in life for me. Also, the wienerschnitzels in Austria are de-li-cious. Those two things made my first, and so far only, wintersports experience one of the best experiences I have ever had. I’ll tell you a bit about it.
My parents wanted to give me a present for graduating high school in 2007. My older brother, Tim, never got a proper gift when he graduated a few years earlier. That was partly due to financial problems, but they were gone at the time I graduated. So, my parents decided to combine my and my brother’s gift into one. A wintersports week somewhere. There would be three of us. Me, Tim and my father, Huub. We eventually had settled on a place in Austria, called Konigsleiten. We went in February 2008. I don’t think it could have gone any better than it did. The trip went without problems, the hotel was great, we had a fantastic ski instructor (Suus) and the weather was perfect except for one day. On that day, there was enormous snowfall. That was great, because the next day, there was fresh snow everywhere. Fresh snow really makes a difference, and normally it only snows once every three weeks over there on avarage, so we got really lucky.
I guess I can’t tell you more about skiing other than that steering is unintuitive, and that it’s great fun. What I mean with the steering is, if you want to make a right turn, you have to lean on your left leg. I.e. towards the valley. On a steep hill, doing it for the first time, is really, really scary. But once you get the hang of it, it’s really fun.Me and my brother considered choosing a snowboard instead of a pair of skiis, but for the type of pistes that there were, and because it was our first time, I opted to choose for skiis. It turnd out to be a great choice, we had limitless fun.
Did I tell you that skiing is fun?
There is a video of me and my brother skiing on the media page.
